Manila, El Poblado

The leafy residential pocket below Parque Lleras packed with cafés, bakeries and the original "street of good food". How it compares to Lleras and Provenza.

Manila is the El Poblado neighbourhood people move to after a few nights near Parque Lleras. Its old family houses have been turned into cafés, bakeries, small restaurants, coworking spaces and designer shops, with murals on the facades — and it goes quiet at night in a way Lleras never does.

What it is

From quiet barrio to food street

Manila was a residential middle-class barrio until a wave of cafés and restaurants arrived in the 2010s. Today the city’s official tourism guide calls it one of visitors’ favourite neighbourhoods: houses converted into cafés, pastry shops, hostels, boutique hotels and stores run by local entrepreneurs.

Look for Calle de la Buena Mesa, the original “street of good food” on Calle 11A, lined with small restaurants serving everything from Colombian to Argentine, Peruvian and Italian.

Manila vs Parque Lleras

Which one suits you

Stay near Parque Lleras if you want nightlife on your doorstep. Choose Manila if you want to walk to coffee and dinner but sleep without the bass from the clubs. The two are close enough that you can easily do both — dinner in Manila, drinks in Lleras or Provenza.

For coffee, Hija Mía Coffee Roasters is a Manila favourite; see our café guide for more.
