Salsa
Medellín is a reggaeton and “crossover” city more than a salsa one, but the salsa bars it does have are excellent — and mostly outside El Poblado. Son Havana on La 70 in Laureles is the Cuban-style institution; El Eslabón Prendido downtown is the Tuesday-night classic. A salsa-night tour gets you a lesson first and then takes you where locals dance, which is a far better introduction than turning up cold.

Going out safely — the short version
Use app or pre-booked taxis, never street hails, especially late. Watch your drink being made and never leave it; scopolamine (“burundanga”) spiking is a documented problem and the reason every guide repeats this. Do not bring people you met that night — or on an app that day — back to your accommodation. Keep your phone out of sight on the street; ride-by snatching is the most common crime.
