Salsa near Parque Lleras

Where to take a salsa class a few blocks from Parque Lleras, and where to go dancing after. Schools, free classes and guided salsa nights.

Medellín is a salsa city, and you don’t need to leave El Poblado to learn. Two well-known dance schools sit within a couple of blocks of Parque Lleras, with group and private classes most days — and a guided salsa night is the easiest way to put it into practice.

Where to learn

Two schools a short walk from the park

Dancefree. On Calle 10A, two blocks from Parque Lleras, offering daily private classes in a range of rhythms including salsa and bachata. Its group sessions have long been a meeting point for travellers.

Rumba y Salsa. Upstairs on Calle 10, with group and individual classes throughout the week in salsa, bachata, kizomba, lady styling and more, aimed at all levels.

Schedules change, so check each school’s current timetable before you go.

After class

Put it into practice

Most of Parque Lleras plays reggaeton rather than salsa. For a proper salsa floor, a guided salsa night takes you to the right bar with an instructor, or head to Vintrash or La House in Provenza, where Latin rhythms share the floors with other music.
